The Power of Music Honors hit different this year. The Soulsville Foundation launched its new “Reverb” Award to celebrate artists who use music to spark change—and they couldn’t have picked a better first recipient than Chuck D of Public Enemy. Presented by the legendary David Porter, Chuck D was honored for a lifetime of activism, art, and unapologetic truth. From his roots in a Stax-loving household to his global impact through hip-hop, he reminded Memphis that you don’t wait for change—you fight for it. “In this city, people died for it to happen,” he said, paying tribute to the soul of Memphis and the legacy of Stax.
