“We’re giving them an opportunity to be on the ice just like the other kids their age. We have a lot of kids on our team that have autism. We have kids that are ADHD. We have kids that have Down syndrome.” Three years ago, Julie Doucette approached Hockey New Brunswick with the idea to create a neurodivergent hockey program to give children like her son, Olivier, the chance to play the game in a safe and supportive environment. This season, the program ran in Dieppe, Quispamsis and Fredericton, featuring 10 bi-weekly sessions run by volunteer coaches and local high school hockey teams.
