Memphis Rap Royalty Took the Stage…
Opening night of RiverBeat Music Festival was a full-circle moment.
The Memphis Rap OGz—La Chat, Al Kapone, Crunchy Black, Skinny Pimp, Gangsta Pat, DJ Spanish Fly, DJ Zirk—took us back to the roots of the Bluff City sound.
30 years since Memphis rap changed the game in ’95, the OGz reminded the city who built the foundation.
The most emotional moment?
A powerful tribute to Gangsta Boo, the Queen of Memphis rap. Her spirit was felt heavy in the crowd as chants rang out:
“There’ll never be another Gangsta Boo.”
Then Al Kapone closed the night with a Memphis anthem that needs no introduction:
“Whoop That Trick!”
And when 8Ball showed up? The river shook.
This ain’t just nostalgia—it’s legacy.
Memphis rap is forever.
