My first ofrenda for día de muertos in this apartment, and I already can’t wait until next year to add more to it! Still need the papel picado, marigolds, and more levels, but I really love how it turned out for my first time.🧡
Setting this up was so bittersweet, and I literally couldn’t stop crying, but honestly I desperately needed it. We lost my tío y tia to covid in the height of the pandemic, and I don’t think I ever fully grieved because of how numb and overwhelmed I felt then.
All I ever heard about my tia Juanita was how much she loved me and was a second mom to me when I lived in Mexico. The few times I was able to speak with her on the phone, she would ask me if I still remembered her and tell me how much she loved me.
Last time I saw them was 20+ years ago, and I had dreamed to see them face-to-face again one day. Unfortunately that won’t be possible in this lifetime, so for now I’m just happy to feel their energy here with me during this beautiful holiday.
