More bad news: The Trump administration recently released its proposed budget, and it aims to cut all funding for the Marine Mammal Commission. The Marine Mammal Commission is a federal agency dedicated to the protection of marine mammals including sea otters, dolphins, and whales. Beyond their intrinsic value, marine mammals also provide immense value to marine ecosystems and help regulate the climate. Healthy oceans depend on healthy marine mammals. If passed, the Trump administration's budget proposes to eliminate the commission and its staff starting Oct. 1, 2025, even though no other federal agency performs the functions of the commission.
