April showers have come and gone. But the Iowa Legislature is still here. The 2025 legislative session was tentatively scheduled to adjourn May 2. That’s the day that lawmakers’ per-diem payments ran out. Without the stipends, they’re left paying for their own apartments, hotels and gas as they drive to and from Des Moines. But lawmakers have yet to agree on a state budget. They haven’t passed any legislation on property taxes that Republicans had said would be their top priority for the year.
