🐨 Conservation heroes at one of Australia’s leading wildlife hospitals are helping to stop the extinction of Koalas impacted by disease - one of the major threats to this species’ survival, along with habitat destruction. 🇦🇺
At currumbinwildlifehospital, 60% of Koala admissions are due to bacterial infections. This wildlife hospital is part of the world’s first Koala Chlamydia Vaccine Research Program, and so far has vaccinated 450 Koalas against chlamydia infections, which can cause Koala infertility.
🌿 The ground-breaking program is supported by rewild and wild.ark, and is helping to prevent infertility in Koalas. The success of the trial is already evident, with over 40 Koala joeys born into the vaccinated population.
