The towering kelp forests of the Pacific Northwest are some of the most enchanting places on Earth. Golden fronds sway in the current, sunlight filters through the canopy as the local marine life takes its hold. It feels more like a dreamscape than real life.
Seaweed is beautiful, but it’s also extremely useful. New research found that seaweed farming could match other blue carbon ecosystems like mangroves and seagrass in the fight against climate change. It’s also in more parts of your life than you might think, showing up in everything from food and skincare to fertilizers and biofuels.
We’re in Victoria, British Columbia this week at the 25th International seaweedsymposium to explore all of this firsthand, and we’ll be sharing what we learn in our stories.
