Urban Ore Workers Union, or UOW, is part of the Industrial Workers of the World and represented by the Industrial Union 670 local chapter. Formed in 2023, UOW alleges that in the two years since its founding, Urban Ore’s owners have engaged in bad-faith bargaining on their reforms.
According to Daniel Salazar, operations manager at Urban Ore, there were nine workers who were actively picketing. He said nonemployees occasionally joined the picketers during the strike, while many other workers continued to work through the strike.
“We are feeling incredibly proud of the effectiveness of our strike, grateful for all of the support we’ve received from the community to make that happen, and we are looking forward to reaching a full collective bargaining agreement,” UOW said in an Instagram post. “We have made some big wins which wouldn’t have been possible without the pressure we were able to exert through our direct action!!”
