If you’re in the mood to dive into a dreamy, medieval world, the nationalgallery’s exhibition “Siena: The Rise of Painting, 1300–1350” is a must. On view until June 22, 2025, it features over 100 works by 14th-century Sienese artists whose style forever changed the course of painting. Walking through the streets of Siena, I realized just how much the city shaped these artists, from Duccio and Simone Martini to Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti. What struck me the most was how they captured the divine using the city itself as a backdrop. Saints seem to float through golden skies, and the vivid colors shimmer with a whimsical, otherworldly quality. It’s like nothing I’ve seen here in Florence. AD #arthistory #medievalart
