✨ Now on view: artifacts tell the story of Nordic women in the Gold Rush ✨ Have you visited the Nordic America Gallery lately? We’ve recently added acquisitions from the Klondike Gold Rush, highlighting the Nordic immigrants who sought fortune in the North. One such immigrant was Norwegian Inga Sjolseth Kolloen, who in 1898 braved the Chilkoot Pass to Dawson City in search of gold. She and her husband, Henry, owned the Jo Jo Hotel on Gold Run Creek in the Yukon, and she documented her perilous journey—from avalanches to shipwrecks—in a travel diary. Objects pictured include: Inga’s gold nugget necklace and “YUKON” ring (ca. 1900), plus a prospecting pan used in Alaska by Andrew Nylund (ca. 1910), a vial of gold dust he collected, and a set of ore assay weights.
