We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend, visionary Ballard artist Ginny Ruffner. Her remarkable career spanned over four decades, and played a pivotal role in shaping Seattle’s reputation as a national center for glass art. Throughout her lifetime, Ruffner was constantly expanding her artistic scope with new ideas and technologies. Just last year, the Museum welcomed Ruffner’s “Project Aurora”—a 20-foot LED light installation that harnesses the ever-changing nature of the aurora borealis. In the audio guide for the piece, Ruffner captured the boundless spirit of her creative vision: “I’m not afraid of the unknown. Yet another thing to explore, yet another thing to be curious about.” We invite you to stop by the entryway of the Museum to experience “Project Aurora” for yourself and remember our dear friend Ginny. - You can read more about Ginny's extraordinary life in the Seattle Times, at the link in our bio.
