✨ Today is St. Lucia's Day!
December 13th honors Saint Lucia of Syracuse, a martyr known for her acts of kindness. In Scandinavian countries, the holiday is marked by beautiful traditions that bring light to dark winter days.
Celebrations usually involve a procession, during which a girl chosen to represent St. Lucia wears the iconic white robe, a red sash, and crown of candles—symbolizing hope and generosity. Families gather to sing traditional songs and enjoy special treats like saffron buns (lussekatter). Fun fact: In Sweden, the saffron in the buns was once believed to ward off evil spirits.
🕯️ How will you be celebrating this luminous day?
