As #BlackHistoryMonth comes to a close, we reflect on a member of our most recent Hall of Fame class, the Desert Mashie Golf Club. In 1950, the Desert Mashie Golf Club joined the United States Golf Association (usga ) and maintains its membership to this day. In 1953, Desert Mashie Golf Club became a charter member of the Western States Golf Association (WSGA). From 1946 to 2015, the membership of Desert Mashie Golf Club grew from 10 members to 174 members. Today, the Desert Mashies are trailblazers in the golf community championing diversity and inclusiveness. With a large focus also on youth development, they created the annual “Desert Mashie Spring Championship” in 1981 which then became a sanctioned JGAA event in 1992. Today, the Desert Mashie Golf Club is recognized as the oldest public golf club in Arizona.
