December 13 is St. Lucia's Day, a festival of lights in which towns across the Scandinavian countries each elect their own St. Lucia for the day. Traditionally, this designated Lucia then leads a procession surrounded by girls dressed in white, and adorned in the festival's signature lighted wreaths on their heads. Young boys also dress in white, and sing traditional songs of the season. St. Lucia Day marks the beginning of the holidays, and strives to bring a sense of light to our dark winter. 🕯️ Pictured: an old family holiday card from our very own Guest Services and Retail Manager Joni Hughes, sketched by her mom in 1973 and depicting a young Joni in traditional St. Lucia garb!
