"Alvar Aalto’s Jyväskylä by Janne Tuunanen" is officially on view! Thank you to everyone who joined us last week to celebrate the opening of this extraordinary new exhibition. The Jyväskylä Region, surrounded by lakes and forests in the heart of Central Finland, is known for the exceptional heritage of modern architecture designed by the renowned Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto (1898–1976). Today, Aalto is recognized as one of the great masters of modern architecture. When the pandemic drove the New York-based Finnish photographer Janne Tuunanen (@jannetuunanenstudio) back to Jyväskylä, he discovered a newfound appreciation for Aalto’s early projects in their shared Finnish hometown. Aalto’s renown was cemented by his later works of industrial and architectural design, but his hometown boasts his early and often overlooked work.
