Daniel Maness was learning the ropes of run-and-gun tactics when he and his buddy spotted the tom strutting in a clearing and made a move.⁠ ⁠ Hunting with his friend Chris Morris, Maness tagged the double-spurred tom on private ground in North Carolina in April. Gobblers with multiple sets of spurs are rare, and less than 1 percent of toms have multiple sets, according to the National Wild Turkey Federation. The 21.7-pound tom with a 10.4-inch beard was indeed a rarity.
