Mother’s Day weekend last year and the year before brought high temperatures to the Portland area, and the memory of those hot days — and many others — has prompted local health officials to roll out their warm weather warnings early.
Last year in Multnomah County, 170 people visited the hospital or urgent care for heat-related illnesses, up from 141 in 2023, health authorities said. Four people died last year in connection with heat exposure, compared with three heat-related deaths in 2023.
And at a press conference Friday, Multnomah County health officials urged people to familiarize themselves with the dangers of very warm weather and consider buying or installing cooling systems now — before it’s too late.
