Thank you for the warm welcome, Portland! On National Train Day, Union Pacific’s #LincolnLocomotive #UP1616 visited Portland, Oregon, for its first-ever public viewing. Community members had the chance to get an up-close look at our freshly-painted ambassador at Oregon Rail Heritage Center. Thanks to President Lincoln’s signing of the Pacific Railway Act – a national milestone was made possible. On May 10, 1869, Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railroad met in Promontory Summit, Utah, to complete the transcontinental railroad network. More than 150 years later, we continue to honor this historic moment that connected the nation, igniting a period of unprecedented growth and laying the foundation for America’s freight rail supply chain.
