Luther Watkins Jr, the man accused of gunning down Tuscaloosa Police Officer Dornell Cousette in September 2019, is heading for trial in September after his self-defense claim was denied this week. Earlier this month Watkin's lawyers argued that Cousette had acted against Tuscaloosa Police policy and was an active threat to Watkins' life when he was shot and killed. But today Judge Brad Almond denied Watkins' Stand Your Ground claim. A jury trial has been scheduled for Sept. 2.
