Sydney Forde, from St. Albert, Alberta, moved to Ontario, Canada, to study sales and marketing at Niagara College, business communications at Brock University, and Canadian-American studies at the University at Buffalo. She is the first Penn State student board member for WPSU since spring 2022 and is completing a Ph.D. in mass communications. Sydney's interest in volunteering at WPSU stemmed from her research on journalism's role in democracy and her advocacy for public media over commercial influences. She was recommended for the position by professors, and the dean of her college, after hearing that the board of representatives was considering asking a student to join them, suggested that I would be a good fit for the position.
