Today, we want to honor the life and legacy of Charles H. “Skip” Smith, Penn State alumnus and philanthropist, whose vision and generosity transformed The Arboretum at Penn State into the cherished destination it is today. Before his passing, Skip made a lasting impact with the contribution to create the Charles H. “Skip” Smith Soaring Waters Fountain Garden. This new feature will celebrate his beloved late wife, Margery, and serve as a welcoming gateway for visitors to our campus.
Skip’s contributions to the Arboretum began with his landmark gift in 2007, which established the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. Since then, his philanthropy has inspired countless others, enabling the Arboretum to flourish as a hub for reflection, education, and community. We extend our deepest condolences and gratitude to the Smith family for their enduring commitment to our mission.
