The Chattanooga Industrial Development Board has unanimously approved a second tax break for Novonix, an Australian battery materials company that laid off about a fifth of its local workforce in January. During the public comment portion at the beginning of the meeting, no one spoke against the tax agreement that gives the foreign company a 15-year tax break worth $54 million in exchange for 500 jobs at a proposed second production facility near Volkswagen. The deal — the second-largest jobs incentive in local history after VW — had already been unanimously approved by the City Council and the Hamilton County Commission.
