Riverbend festival organizers might have anticipated problems when the opening day of Riverbend 1986 fell on Friday, June 13.
Alas, headliner Willie Nelson broke his thumb before the start of the festival and withdrew from the lineup.
Fortunately for the festival, the Oak Ridge Boys – then the No. 1 vocal/instrumental group in America – were available to fill in. With such hits as "Elvira" and "Y'all Come Back Saloon," the Oak Ridge Boys were on a roll in the mid-1980s.
