Yesterday, we honored the Feast of St. Catherine of Siena — a woman whose deep faith and fearless commitment to justice continue to inspire. Drawn from a life of quiet contemplation into one of bold public service, St. Catherine devoted herself to the poor, the sick, and the forgotten, caring for the ill in their homes and gathering a community committed to acts of mercy. Her influence extended far beyond charitable works. St. Catherine became a courageous voice for reform within the Church, calling people back to prayer, confession, and a wholehearted love of God. She didn’t shy away from political conflict either — traveling widely to promote peace, urging unity, and standing firm in loyalty to the Pope during times of deep division. Her spiritual gifts and bravery even led her to intervene in the life of a condemned prisoner, witnessing his soul’s ascent to heaven in his final moments. St. Catherine is the patroness of Italy, the United States, nurses, the ill, those who’ve suffered...
