What would you rate this mobula ray’s leap out of 10?
Mobula rays, also known as devil rays, are actually cousins of the manta ray. Despite their devilish nickname, they’re curious creatures that rarely pose a threat.
Twice a year, thousands of them migrate to the Sea of Cortez in Baja California Sur to feed on the plankton-rich waters. They’re iconic for two reasons: their giant group gatherings and their acrobatic leaps, sometimes launching up to two meters out of the water!
This migration started in April and will continue through July, so you could see it right now with your own eyes! Our cofounder mitty captured this shot with some patience, timing, and maybe a little serendipity.
Thank you to Adobe for giving us the tools to share encounters like this one with the world. Their support helps bring our creative work to life and powers our mission to inspire love for the ocean and action to protect our blue planet.
