Sitting at her desk at the Kitchen Incubator of Chattanooga, a start-up space for local chefs to get a foothold in food-centric businesses, Chasty Lane, 44, recalls one of her earliest cooking memories.
"I remember my grandmother was making one of her caramel cakes when I was about 8 years old. She had gout, and it was hurting her, so I was like, 'I can make that for you.'"
And she did, igniting a love of cooking there in her grandmother's kitchen in Columbus, Mississippi.
