Ready for today’s
#stjosephs130th history lesson? Did you know…
The statue of “St. Joseph and the Christ Child” has greeted visitors to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center since 1962. Donated by the Basha Family, the statue was created in Italy and originally placed along Thomas Road (back when that area served as the hospital’s main entrance). The statue was the perfect backdrop for Pope John Paul II’s historic visit to the hospital in 1987. When the hospital moved its entrance to 5th Avenue, the statue was also moved. Today, the figure is an enduring hospital icon and is often the first and last thing people see when visiting St. Joseph’s.
