If you've ever opened a medical bill and wondered how a ten-minute visit costs more than your rent, Mark Cuban feels your pain—loudly and unapologetically.
On the "How I Doctor" podcast with Dr. Graham Walker, Cuban ripped into the U.S. healthcare system, calling insurance companies “the worst of the worst” and slamming high-deductible plans that leave both patients and doctors footing the bill.
“If a patient making $25K has a $5K deductible, doctors are screwed,” Cuban said. “Even if the patient can’t pay, you still have to treat them—and then you’re chasing the money, too.”
Cuban, who co-founded Cost Plus Drugs in 2022 to fight inflated prescription prices, laid out his vision for fixing the system:
- Free medical school – “$24 billion is nothing. It would change everything.”
- Pay doctors more – “If I’m getting a heart transplant, I want that doctor focused—not worried about rent.”
- Ditch prior authorizations – “They're just designed to stall and make money.”
