Why you NEED easy runs in your training !! (even when they feel like you’re going backwards) Today’s 7-miler was one of those runs where my ego whispered “you should be going faster…” but I’ve learned that these steady, conversational-pace miles are where the real magic happens. When you first start incorporating easy runs, it honestly feels like you’re taking a step back. Your pace slows down, your watch judges you, and part of you wonders if you’re even improving. But here’s what I’ve discovered: easy runs are the foundation that everything else is built on. They develop your aerobic base, teach your body to burn fat efficiently, and allow you to recover between those intense sessions. The runners who rush through these “boring” runs are the same ones who plateau or get injured trying to make every mile a race. So I’m putting my ego aside and trusting the process.
