Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson announced Wednesday that the county would no longer distribute tents to homeless people living outside except during severe weather events. Distribution of other gear, including sleeping bags and blankets, will continue, she said. “As additional shelter and affordable housing capacity becomes available, the community’s need for tents should diminish,” reads a county statement about the new rule obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive. “The goal is to have sufficient shelter and affordable housing capacity to make the distribution of tents unnecessary.” Read more at the link in our bio. 📸: bethnakamura #homelessness #portland #portlandoregon #multnomahcounty #homelessservices #tents
