The risk of human trafficking greatly increases with layers of vulnerability for marginalized and under-resourced people. For instance, did you know that homeless LGBTQ+ youth are 7.4x more likely to experience acts of sexual violence than heterosexual individuals (Polaris Project)? We must address human trafficking holistically and actively reform systems that contribute to marginalizing vulnerable populations. And we must address risk factors and commit to fulfilling needs better than traffickers are able to. We can do this by resourcing the Dressember Network, a collective of 20 localized programs worldwide that know how to sustainably serve these communities, and contributing to a social rhetoric that does not discriminate service provision based on identity.
