FIRE CREW: Sacramento Hotshots The sacramento_hotshots are located in Sacramento, New Mexico, 35 miles southeast of Cloudcroft, and sits at 7200ft elevation with a dominant ponderosa pine forest. Sacramento Hotshots have occupied this base from 1983 to the present. The journey of this crew traces back to when they were originally established in 1973 as one of the new Region 3 IHCs in the Coronado National Forest. The crew, initially known as Catalina Hotshots, found their roots at the Palisades Guard Station on Mt. Lemmon, just north of Tucson, AZ. However, the winds of change swept through in 1982 when the Coronado National Forest proposed a relocation, citing insufficient funds and facilities. Several National Forests expressed their interest, including the Kaibab, Apache Sitgraves, and Cibola, but the ideal haven emerged in Lincoln.
