Meet the musk ox – survivor from the Ice Age! ❄️   Have you ever heard of the musk ox? This incredible Arctic mammal has roamed the northern hemisphere since before the Ice Age! With its thick, fluffy coat and majestic presence, it’s built to withstand the harshest winters 🥶 (and is also quite cute). 😍   Once widespread, musk oxen have disappeared from many regions over time. In Sweden, the only wild herd traces its origins back to the 1970s, when a few individuals crossed the border from Norway. 🇳🇴   Today, this Swedish herd is tiny – but efforts are underway to protect and restore them. The Musk Ox Centre in Härjedalen, near the Norwegian border, works to ensure that this Ice Age icon continues to roam Sweden’s wilderness for generations to come. 💪 They conduct research and educate the public on the breed’s history as well as their role in the ecosystem, which is key to protecting and supporting both musk oxen and the region’s biodiversity. 🌱 They also breed musk ox calves for ...
