Yesterday, Major Velena Iga from The Salvation Army in Papua New Guinea was honored with the U.S. Department of State’s International Women of Courage Award.
This distinguished award is a reflection of her unwavering dedication to protecting the most vulnerable in Papua New Guinea. Through initiatives like the “1-Tok” counseling hotline and the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Training Manual, she has empowered survivors and strengthened national protection systems.
