My foster died.💔 To foster an animal is an act of love and hope, but this time it came with heartbreak. Spyro and his siblings were our first foster cats. We had Spyro for exactly 3 weeks before he went to his new home with the most amazing family. They had him for a short 2 months and 5 days. His name was Arthur. And FIP tragically took his life. Arthur was diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a disease once considered almost universally fatal. FIP occurs when a benign strain of feline coronavirus mutates within the body. While most cats exposed to the virus never become ill, a small percentage develop FIP, leading to inflammation in organs and tissues. There is a treatment for FIP now, but it’s difficult to access. The medication is expensive, unregulated, and requires a grueling 84-day regimen of daily injections. For Artie, it was too late.
