Each spring, Belle Isle bursts with color thanks to over 100 cherry blossom trees—originally donated in 1994 by Detroit’s sister city, Toyota, Japan. Planted near the Scott Fountain and Sunset Point, they symbolize friendship and renewal. After many original trees were lost, 120 new ones were replanted in 2014 by volunteers and The Greening of Detroit. Today, these blooms draw crowds for hanami (flower viewing) and epic skyline views.
