March Madness Sweet 16 starts Thursday, and multiple players are out with muscle strains. A muscle strain is an injury that occurs when a muscle or its tendon (the fibrous cord that connects the muscle to the bone) is stretched or torn beyond its normal capacity. This is a very common sports injury. To prevent this injury, Dr. Garrett Schwarzman, a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon at UF Health Orthopaedics, suggests focusing on regular stretching, proper warm-up and cool-down routines, strength training, and maintaining good hydration and nutrition.
