Rant over…turns out I needed some lunch but the point still stands. Also a brief caveat: I’m painting with a broad brush to show that systemically misaligned incentives can lead to bad outcomes when there is blind trust in the system. I’m criticizing the medical system…not any individual medical provider (some of whom are incredible, some are terrible). I’ve found that those who are quick to defend the system with anecdotes of their great medical team aren’t similarly open to anecdotes when someone beats a diagnosis by deviating from standard protocols.
