Lowe, the first-ever Indigenous chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)—the agency responsible for funding museums, libraries, scholars, nonprofits, and other research institutions—has been pushed out at "the direction of President Trump," an unnamed NEH source from Hyperallergic has reported. As chair, Lowe’s trailblazing vision was to uplift grassroots initiatives, like tribal communities and small colleges. “I just want to reach the people we haven’t reached... I want them to apply all the time, in great numbers,” Lowe said in 2022. Lowe was nominated by President Biden in 2021. A replacement has not yet been named.
