How lucky we were as an industry to have a trainer, a man, a friend like Larry Demeritte 💛 Always one to offer a smile and something kind to say, Larry was fueled by his faith and passion for horses, which helped keep him going throughout his lengthy battle with blood cancer. Sadly, Larry’s battle came to an end Tuesday evening. He passed away at the age of 75. A native of the Bahamas, Larry moved to the U.S. in 1976 and began training in 1991. It had been a lifelong dream of his to run a horse in the Kentucky Derby and last year he did just that with his trainee West Saratoga. Larry became the first Bahamian to ever enter a horse in the first leg of the Triple Crown. Last year, TDN checked in with Larry and West Saratoga at Keeneland ahead of that special first Saturday in May, which is the footage you see in this reel. Though the Derby was his dream, Larry always made sure his horses and his team came first. Rest in Peace, Larry 💛 You will be missed. #larrydemeritte #bahamas ...
