You are looking at a Mac Knight just moments before she began writing the timed essay that would lead her to become the 2025 UIL 5A state champion in ready writing. Junior Beatrix Lozach wrote the essay in a crowded classroom at UT’s Welch Hall, the same classroom where she earned a fourth-place finish in headline writing the day before. Lozach became the first McCallum student to win a UIL academic state title in at least a decade and probably much longer. We are going to have to do some research to find out when or if there is a precedent in school history. After Lozach wrote her championship essay, she helped her adviser carry the portable lab they had to bring to the competition back to the car in the Speedway Parking Garage so they could head back to campus for sixth period.
