District Attorney candidates Pat Dugan and Larry Krasner cast their ballots early Tuesday morning in Philadelphia’s Democratic primary. By far the most high-profile race on the ballot, Tuesday’s primary will likely decide the fate of the office, since Republicans are not running a candidate.
Krasner, a two-time incumbent, has cast himself as a progressive prosecutor, with goals including the expansion of diversionary programs, never pursuing a death sentence in any case, and sticking up for immigrants. Dugan, an Army veteran, campaigned on a plan to divide the DA’s office into regional divisions focused on specific neighborhoods in the city — and has been critical of Krasner, claiming in a recent interview that Krasner took on a “non-prosecution role” as DA.
