A lucky escape, or an ill omen? On This Day 70 years ago, Alberto Ascari exited the tunnel during the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix and made an error at the chicane, crashing his Lancia D50 through straw bales and plunging into Port Hercule's deep-water harbour. 🤿 Divers were dispatched to the scene, but to the relief of all, Ascari surfaced by himself with only a broken nose. 😮‍💨 Tragically, Ascari would die just four days later at Monza, having spontaneously decided to test alongside Eugenio Castellotti in a Ferrari 750 Monza.
