We’re celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today by remembering his 1966 march down State Street to lead the Chicago Freedom Movement, which advocated for housing reform to fight housing discrimination and inequality, which took place just a few blocks away from the Fine Arts Building. The march culminated with Dr. King posting a list of 14 demands on the LaSalle Street entrance of City Hall. As a direct of the Chicago open housing movement, Congress passed the 1968 Fair Housing Act. Please join us in taking today to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy for social reform in Chicago and across America.
