• Just Dribble.
• When I’m asked what I did as a kid to develop my ball-handling skills, the answer is simple: Just dribbled. I would dribble in a free-flowing, freestyle, creative way—developing a feel and connection with the ball. The ball had to be an extension of my hands.
• I dribbled every day for hours. In front of mirrors, just to see how my moves looked—lol. I’d watch my own shadow and try to shake it. I brought my ball everywhere, dribbling nonstop. And if I couldn’t bring a basketball somewhere, I had those small blue handballs—you know, the super bouncy ones. If you know, you know. Handling one of those was a challenge.
• I had an obsession with handles. Still do. Being a guard from New York, it’s almost a sin not to have them. Skip, God Shammgod, Booger, Alimoe, Shannon Bobbitt—just to name a few. What those legends could do with the ball was INSANE. And if you asked them how they got there, they’d probably say something similar: Just Dribble.
