You marry what you know. But you make a vow to what you don’t know.
I was having dinner with my mom and she mentioned this to me and it stopped me in my tracks. She then told me that every Friday she keeps a standing reservation with my dad, at the same restaurant...43 years into their marriage. She continued and said, “I still want to date your father.”
It reminded me of the vows we make each and every day:
To the challenges. The losses. The changes. The versions of each other you haven’t met yet.
A vow isn’t just to the person at the altar, it’s to the person you commit to showing up for, again and again.
That hit different.
