This real-time imaging system can clearly image fast-spinning objects. Using a high-speed projector, the system illuminates a rotating object with a series of patterns. A single-pixel detector then acquires a measurement for each pattern projection. When the object spins around once, the projector transitions to another pattern. The advance successfully captured images of an object spinning at 14,700rpm - a promising development to improve safety and extend equipment life.
