BAYOU WOLVES? 💰 On this day in 1994, the Minnesota Timberwolves were reportedly being sold for $152.5 million to Top Rank, who had the intentions of relocating to New Orleans and playing their home games in the Superdome during the 1994-95 season. A couple of weeks later, Top Rank officially filed the paperwork to the NBA seeking to relocate the Timberwolves to New Orleans for the 1994–95 NBA season. In fact, The Times Picayune even published a front page headline that said “Got ‘Em!” after the sale was close to being finalized. With the timber wolf not a native species to Louisiana, there was speculation as to what the relocated franchise would be called. A few names were proposed — New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial advocated for the team be called the Rhythm, while Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards suggested the team be renamed the Angels.
