Mark Cuban wants young people to know they don't need life figured out at 22.
In a 2019 interview, the billionaire investor shared his own messy start after college. He was broke, slept on the floor, got fired from a sales job, and partied hard.
After graduating from Indiana University, he moved to Dallas, bartended at night, and sold PC software during the day. Getting fired pushed him to start his first company, MicroSolutions, which he later sold for millions.
Cuban's advice is simple: just get a job and start doing something. You don't need your dream career right away. The key, he says, is learning how to learn and staying curious. Most people stop when an idea sounds cool. The difference is taking action—building a prototype, finding one paying customer, and figuring it out as you go.
According to Cuban, you don't need all the answers. You just need to start and keep learning.
